I was waiting for my cab outside a new salon I was trying out (since I don't drink here I have become a massage or mani/pedi fiend - depending on the week). I noticed an interesting phenomenon: a really nice car pulls up (Lexus, BMW, Mercedes, etc.) to the curb in front of the dry-cleaners and honks its horn. The drivers are always wearing a hijab or a dishdasha. The worker man comes out, collects their clothes, goes inside and writes up the ticket and brings it back out to the car. If a person actually walks into the dry-cleaners it means they're an expat (such as myself) or a worker for a Kuwaiti family (perhaps an expat family, but odds are it's a Kuwaiti one).
The white car (Lexus, I think - don't remember) was waiting for their dry-cleaning. The car in front of it was a driver waiting for the ladies to come out of the salon. Oh, and it's named The Boudoir Salon. I find that incredibly...dirty? ironic? wrong for a fairly repressed culture? Or perhaps it's just that my mind is in the wrong place...Nah :)
Sorry for the bad pics - I was using my iPhone and laughing. At least you can see my pretty blue nail in this one. Also, the dry-cleaners wheel of clothes is FULL of dishdashas. It only makes sense, they're mostly white and it's a sandy, dirty place. Especially with all the rain lately. I will NEVER complain about the potholes in MN again. I realize that's saying something, but friends, the first and last parts of my drives to and from my place is across a patch of desert that has potholes that literally throw you out of your seat if you're not prepared. For reals.

While I was waiting for my taxi that night (12th) I had a Kuwaiti man come up to me and say: "Excuse me, do you need any help?" I said no. Now, if I was in the states I would think that was nice. Except I'm not...and I'm about 95% sure dude thought I was a prostitute. You know, 'cause I was wearing my teacher clothes and stuff, so I'm sure I screamed it. WTF? At least he walked away right away - I must not have gotten the code right :)-

Remember the moat? Well, it lasted about a week, and I came home on the 10th and it was filled in. I was very excited, because the teachers were betting it would be like that for 2 - 3 months. I came home from school on the 11th and they had dug another fucking hole in the exact same spot! Seriously! I don't understand. I'm no construction-manager-genius, but even I can tell that's a waste of time! AND THEN: it was filled in again today! Anyone want to take bets as to if/when it gets dug out again???
