Khiran Beach

Rumor had it that there was a beach in Kuwait that was not covered in garbage.  This rumor also said that you could wear a Western-style swimsuit.  On October 5th a small group of teachers from 3 different schools ended up taking a chance and headed out to said mythical beach.  Our plan was to leave Mahboula by 8:30.  Well, it's a little difficult to meet up with the person who has the directions when you all go to a different McDonald's, but despite an hour and a half start delay, we managed to find the beach - which, by the way, is fairly close to Saudi Arabia.  No, I did not go to the border.  I figure I have some time ;)

I left my new camera in my apartment, and my waterlogged one was at school, so I have stolen these from some of my fellow beach-goers ;)

A CLEAN (ish) beach!

The Kuwaiti Coast Guard went by us multiple times...we were waiting for them to stop and say something about our Western-style beach attire, but they never did.

We parked our blankets in front of this chalet.  Many Kuwaiti families have chalet's outside of town.  What a terrible beach house!  See those pretty columns of smoke in the background?  Yeah, a powerplant of some sort was right there.  We decided that since no one was glowing at the end of the day we were safe...

The water where we chilled.  It was super warm!  We were floating around looking for cooler spots!  There weren't many :)

Three hours at the beach and we were done.  It was still 100+ degrees in the first part of October, so we were cool with leaving around 1.  Besides, more locals were making an appearance.  It was nicer when it was a few small groups of Western expats chilling :)
