Last Friday night my friend Chris took me to the Friday Market. I never went last year, so I figured, why not?
Well, first of all, as a blonde American you do not go to the Friday Market on a Friday night. I was really glad that I had no idea what they were saying...the stares were enough. That and the guy that got right up in my face & said, "hi." Second of all, why we thought it was a good idea to get closer to Kuwait City on a Friday night is beyond me. And thirdly, well, the traffic was SUPER special. Watching cars drive up and over curbs to get to the parking lot, watching cars driving over curbs to get out of the parking lot, crossing at least 3 lanes of bumper-to-bumper traffic, and then cutting off the people that were going the direction they wanted to be going was very entertaining. We parked about as far away from the market as you possibly could and cut across the parking lot watching for cars so we didn't get run over. Honestly, it was safer than trying to park closer. The other benefit was that we were able to leave from a different direction without major problems.
Our walk through the parking lot is where we found this gem:
Here's a little selection of the Friday Market sights:
That lovely mannequin has cut up paper cups to cover her bits and pieces ;)
Random electronic pieces, kitchen stuff, tools, jewelry, bedding, furniture, clothes and even animals can be purchased at the Friday Market. I chose to not go and look at the animals...
In the carpet section, men with wheel-barrows would follow you around. That way, when you bought something they were ready to follow behind you with your new threads.
A John Deere themed swingset!
Guess what the best part of the Friday Market was....if you guessed a 250 fil schwarma, you'd be right! (roughly $ .86)
