Epidauros - one of the most amazing sights on our trip. After we left Nafplio on the 29th, we headed to Epidauros to see the theatre and the temple of Asklepios, which date from the 4th century. We arrived literally as they were shutting down for the night. We were hoping to see the site and head towards Corinth yet that night, but it was not to be. After leaving the sight, we headed into the local town and looked for somewhere to stay. We stopped at one place and called the number listed on the door since it was locked. We found out the price and 10 minutes later the owner was there to let us in! It was pretty easy to find reasonable rooms on the fly in the small tourist towns since it wasn't peak season. We also got our rooms like this in Mycanea and Olympia.

Our first view of the theatre on the morning of the 30th. It is spectacular.
|
Right in front - it's hard to get a picture of the whole thing because it's so massive!
Asklepios was the god of medicine. People were brought to here to heal. He is almost always depicted holding a staff with a serpent entwined around it.

The ruins at the site.

The Sanctuary at Epidauros. Yes, it rained here as well. It wasn't too bad - mostly a light drizzle.
