Nafplio

On December 29th we headed to Nafplio in the morning.  It was a short stop on our way to Epidauros.  In Nafplio, we knew there were a couple of old forts, plus we wanted to have brunch along the waterfront.

Clementines were in season.  We always had a bag with us in the car to munch on.

We even saw them on the side of the road!  Greece was really interesting, because depending on where we were depended on what we saw: olive trees or orange trees!

Brunch - this happens to be the beverage choice of champions right here...

Just a little fort in the middle of the water.  This was our view as we ate.  It was awful.

Along the coast.

Along the coast.
Palamidi Fortress - Our tourist destination for the day.  It was quite the trip getting up there.  We took a wrong turn, and it was probably the worst turn we took on the trip.  We ended up on a one-lane street with cars parked on the side of the road - it stopped at a dead end.  Turning around was a bit treacherous.  I got out of the car and gave Chris directions for multiple miniature turns so we didn't hit anything.  It was quite an experience!

The entrance to the fortress.

Inside the fortress.

It was nice and sunny when we got there.  As you can see, it started to get a bit dark...

You can't really tell from this picture, but there was a person swimming down there.  The water was gorgeous!  It would be work going back in the summer to experience the water myself.  It was a little chilly for my taste!

It's still bright on this side...

But not on this side.

And it got darker...
And then it rained.  Chris headed for shelter before the rain started, but Arvay and I went off exploring in the open areas of the fort.  The grass and dirt paths started to get slippery.  Guess who slipped on her ass in the mud?  Muddy jeans and a dirty bag for the rest of the trip.  Oh well!  A nice little rainy day adventure!
