I finally purchased a phone. Yes, you read that correctly. I have not had a phone for a little over 6 weeks. I think it bothered other people more than it did me.
I did have a very good reason for waiting. Well, in my world I did! You see, once you get your civil id, you can get a phone plan. On a certain phone plan with a company called Viva you can get a FREE iPhone 4 if you sign up for a year. You can bet your bottom dollar I signed up for that plan! It also has unlimited data, which is wonderful. I know I can call and text to all of you back home, but it costs mucho dinero. If you would like to be able to get a hold of me, I will gladly supply my number. Just be aware that making an international call could potentially cost your first-born. I would recommend getting a calling card so that you know how much you’ve spent when the lady comes on the phone telling you to get off. There is also an app you can download if you have a smartphone - it's called 'What's App.' It cost $.99 for me, but it cost Sara $2.00 back in the states. Either way, we can now text for free! Also, if you have an iPhone, Robin and I are testing out whether or not international iPhones can text each other for free. Stay tuned! Also, if you do get the app, get a hold of me for my number, and please, for the love of everything that is holy, check the time difference before you call :)- (If it's an emergency, call away! And by emergency I mean excessive blood or death. I need to be clear about these things now.)
If you REALLY want to chat, get Skype and we can set up a time and date. It’s just easier to plan it ahead of time!
Lindsay and I went to Fahaheel for groceries, a phone for me and a microwave for her. I can report that the mission was a success! She also got a juicer/blender. I am very excited about this, as she is planning on making homemade pesto and I am SO going to be borrowing her blender to make my own. I figure if someone’s there to talk me through it the first time it should be all good! I know it’s not hard, people say just to throw in the stuff and blend it, but I want a little more direction the first time!
Abdul, the taxi driver she usually calls, was the first person to get my phone number. I find that extremely funny. He had picked us up at the grocery store and drove us over to the electronic store so we could pick up Lindsay’s stuff. We were waiting in the car and he asked for my number. Lindsay and I both gave him crap for being a smooth talker :) No worries, he’s married and we totally made him blush picking on him. Also, he’s a good guy – if he can’t pick us up he’ll send his roommate or his brother. His brother ‘yelled’ at Lindsay the other day for taking a driver she didn’t know.
For the most part, I don’t worry about that, but after a cab ride I had this weekend back from The Avenues I will be happy to call Abdul & Co. to come pick my butt up! Seriously, I thought Laura and I were not going to make it. Freaking crazy drivers here!
I am finally caught up on your blog-which ROCKS, by the way- as I am snowed in at a different village, likely until Monday! I'm so glad one of us has access to restaurants and shopping...miss chatting with you like crazy! We should really set up a skype date next weekend. Toodles!
ReplyDeleteThanks for liking my blog! I feel the same way about yours :)
ReplyDeleteA Skype date would be great! I have this whole week off for Eid. I don't go back to school until Sunday the 13th.
Sorry to hear you're snowed in. How does that work as far as lesson plans and substitutes?
The restaurants without the cocktails are just not as fun. I don't go out much - but the ordering in could get dangerous!
