Green Grass!

Friday October 28, 2011

This morning was my weekly Skype date with my sister. I always love it, even though I have to set my alarm every week in order to talk to her. I even had to get up a little earlier this morning. There’s a brunch every Friday morning put on by the Canadians in Kuwait. Today it was being held at the Sahara Club. It was the last one being held there, so we decided to go. I had to be showered and ready to go by 9:30, so I was up at 7 to shower before talking to sister dear.

The brunch – oh was it SO worth it! Fruit, omelets, breads, cheeses, cereal, donuts, muffins, hash browns, fresh-squeezed lemonade, the best cup of coffee I have ever had in my life and oh so much more!

Brunch!

The entrance area to the golf club.

A view of the golf course. Please note the sand traps. I think they're hilarious. The whole damned country is a sand trap and yet they add more!

Part of the golf course is in the middle of a horse racing track. I did find this aspect of it to be interesting and unique. I'm hoping to go to a race at some point. We'll see!

This pool was enough to make me inquire about the membership fees. It was over 1000 KD for a single person. Let me say that there is NO WAY I will ever pay that kind of money to swim in this pool. But oh, was it pretty!

Do you want to know what the best part was? The grass! They have the most beautiful grass! We always preface grass by saying it's green (hence the title of the blog post). Everything is brown here, so to see something of color that is familiar is absolutely amazing. It is also the only golf course in Kuwait that has grass. Apparently at the other ones they give you a piece of astro-turf to carry around! Rick, Maddy and I took off our shoes and walked around. Okay, I laid on it too. I couldn’t help myself! It was SO pretty and nice!

That afternoon there was a jewelry party held at one of the teachers apartments. The lady is from Taiwan and sells freshwater pearls. They were beautiful. I may or may not have bought myself some ;)

Now I’m hanging out on my couch, updating my blog posts, listening to some music and waiting to go to the Halloween/Birthday party. Tomorrow I’m hosting Saturday school for the kids who don’t know how to get to class on time. Hopefully they behave themselves so I can get some grading done. It’s the end of the quarter this week– GAH!
