COFFEE MAKER!

Sorry for shouting, but I was SO excited!

Saturday, October 8th, 2011

I went to school in the morning to work. It’s what I do! After school Rick and I went to Fahaheel to wander around and pick up a few essentials: he needed a microwave and I was in desperate need of a coffeemaker that worked. The people who got here on time told us there was an electronics store, so we wandered around a bit.

We found a Panasonic store, but it was closed until 4:30. Rick hadn’t been in the area yet, so I took him to Centerpoint, a big department store. We wandered in there for hours! We both ended up getting pots and pans for our apartments. Although I do have pot-holders now, I still wanted some nice pans with handles! I’m going to be here for 2 years, and since I do like to cook I wanted something decent.

After that we wandered around Fahaheel for a bit. There are a lot of small stores in the area. When we got there at 2, most of the shops were closed. By 4:30 almost everything was open and the place was hopping! We also found the Zebra store (a book / school supply store). I was looking for some parts of speech posters for my room (noun, pronoun, verb, adjective, etc.) and Rick needed some health ones. He found some, I didn’t. Oh well!

Orange juice anyone?

The Lulu's in Fahaheel. This one doesn't sell groceries, but it sells appliances, clothes, jewelry, etc.

By this time it was after 4:30, so we went back to the Panasonic store. I can tell you that this was NOT the store the others were telling us about. They were saying how it had such great deals. Yeah, that would be a big fat no on this one! The cheapest coffeemaker they had was over 50 KD. That is well over $150. Absolutely not! I wasn’t that desperate for coffee!

We left and wandered around some more. We saw a store that might be what we were looking for, so we went in. Score! I found my coffee maker and Rick got his microwave.

Yes, that is a 'dirty' cloth under my coffee maker. We had a bit of a disagreement one morning about spilling coffee on my table. We're on better terms now! And yes, I use bottled water for my coffee. There's e-coli in the water here. Ewwww!

Interesting Tidbit About the Store:

A salesperson rings up your transaction in the area where you are purchasing something. They give you a piece of paper with a code on it. You go over to another area to pay. After you pay they give you two pieces of paper and you go to the opposite side of the store. You hand over your paper and someone goes and picks up your item and delivers it to you. What a pain in the neck! I mean, I get it if you’re buying a big screen tv or something, but for a coffeemaker? Whatever!

We went back to Centerpoint and paid for our stuff after we left the electronics store. We were going to go to the grocery story, but we had way too much stuff. A man at the store pushed our cart to the road so we could get a taxi. We filled that taxi up!
