Dinner Party

October 5th, 2011

Maddy contacted me earlier this week wondering if I wanted to get together and cook one night this week. Of course I said, “sure!”

Sunday and Monday didn’t work for me, and Tuesday didn’t work for her. Wednesday it was!

Usually by Wednesday we’re starting to scrounge through our grocery stash. We don’t have room to keep a lot, and our refrigerators are not what one would call large! We decided it would be a theme night: bring what you have in your cupboard and I’ll bring what’s in mine, and we’ll call it good!

She had pasta sauce, I had noodles. Done! We were just starting to cook when Rick called. He and Cory had missed the last bus because the bus people didn’t send enough people to pick up the soccer kids from practice. The boys are bused somewhere else to practice because there isn’t enough room at the school, and god forbid they stagger practice and parents be responsible to pick up their children.

Anyways, they were finally getting back (around 6) and they needed small bills to pay the cab driver because he didn’t have change. Maddy ran some money down, then invited him to join us.

Hallelujah! Rick showed up with chicken, fresh parsley, basil and some other herb that I don’t know, broccoli and an onion. He made himself at home in my kitchen and started dicing and chopping away! Maddy and I watched and helped when we could. He whipped that stuff up and made one of the most delicious throw-together meals I’ve had in a long time! He even brought an extra pan!

Rick totally made himself at home in my kitchen and made our 'meh' dinner into a delicious one!

Maddy was a great kitchen supervisor :)

Yes, I really did eat onion in my pasta. He sautéed it in olive oil with the herbs, then added the chicken, then the broccoli. When that was done, he poured in the noodles and sauce that Maddy and I had started. Voila! A delicious dinner AND the first time I had company over!
